Thermal Patterns, Yellowstone

This was painted on the boardwalk at Emerald Pool in Yellowstone, where Abby also painted so many years ago. I was intrigued by the patterns of the water and mud leading into the thermal pool so chose to paint them instead of the more obvious choice of the pool itself. A gentleman who came by and watched me for a few minutes remarked that he “ain’t never seen anyone paint mud before!” My limited time in Yellowstone did not allow for me to paint additional paintings in this thermal area, but thanks to this study and a lot of reference photos, I plan to paint several more, including some with steam rising and glowing in the late day sun. Was $850, now $200 unframed.
